Non – fiction recounts, understanding a poem in context.
The Highwayman, a narrative poem ideal for performance.
Mathematics
Whole school maths targets for this term are based on Subtraction
The Year 5 targets are displayed in the classrooms.
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
This unit extends knowledge and confidence with multiplication and division, giving opportunities to use written skills to solve problems. The unit then moves onto exploring all aspects of angels, measuring to a suitable degree of accuracy.
Securing number facts, relationships and calculating
This unit is principally about fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion. The children have opportunities to apply the knowledge and experience of decision making.
Science
The Sun, Earth and Moon
a. How the position of the Sun appears to change during the day, and how shadows change as this happens
b. That the sun, Earth and Moon are approximately spherical
c. How day and night are related to the spin of the Earth on its own axis
d. That the Earth orbits the Sun once each year, and that the Moon takes approximately 28 days to orbit the Earth.
