This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term during the topic ‘Animals’
Personal Social and Emotional Development
Children will be learning to know themselves and what they can do.

Communication Language and Literacy
Oxford Literacy Web stories
Enjoying a range of fiction and non-fiction texts about animals and other things that interest the children. Sequencing key events and ordering and activities.
Author Study – Eric Carle
Developing knowledge of phonemes and digraphs to spell and read words.
Hear, say and write known phonemes and digraphs at the beginning, end and middle of simple words. Spelling tricky words (such as I, no, go, to, into, the, all, she, they, be)
Learning about simple sentence structure - Using capital letters and full stops.
Developing handwriting skills: forming cursive letters correctly and joining digraphs.
Writing about a variety of things – animals, habitats, life cycles and things that interest us.
Role Play – Vets and Jungle
Alphabetical order, upper and lower case letters, word patterns.
This half term the whole school maths targets are based on Division.
The Year R targets are displayed in the classroom.

Minibeasts, farm visit
ICT: Logging on and off, adding text using the keyboard – space bar, delete keys and lock.
Drawing pictures then saving and retrieving them.
DT: Design a habitat box for an animal of choice.
Make a bottle bug with moving parts.
R.E: Special places, why are they special and who are they special to.
Creative Development
Art: Developing drawing pictures with shapes and clear lines.
Music: Pitch
Physical Development
PE: Games – Team games and parachute games
Gym – Travelling on different body parts.
