Second Half of Summer Term 2011    Year 6

This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term.

English  -  as well as the Primary Framework
Author study and creative writing – ‘Ali Sparkes in a box project’
Shakespeare Study – Finding out about the Globe Theatre in London - Macbeth
Research skills  -Main attractions of London (Geography link)
                           -Francis Drake and the Golden Hinde.

Mathematics
This half term the whole school maths targets are based on Division. The Year 6 targets are displayed in the classroom.
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
Select and use standard metric units of measure and convert between units using decimals to two places.
Solve problems by measuring, estimating and calculating, measure and calculate using imperial units still in everyday use, know their approximate metric values.
Securing number facts, relationships and calculating
Use knowledge of place value and multiplication facts to 10 X 10 to derive related multiplication and division facts involving decimals.
Express one quantity as a percentage of another find equivalent percentages, decimals and fractions.
Handling data and measures
Solve problems by collecting, selecting, processing, presenting and interpreting data, using ICT where appropriate; draw conclusions and identify further questions to ask
Use a calculator to solve problems involving multi-step calculations.

Science
Science investigations:  Applying knowledge and skills to enquiry based investigations.
Y6/7 Transition Unit - Investigation fizzy drinks (Ann-Marie Cairns)
