This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term.
English - as well as the Primary Framework
Choral Poetry - hear, read, and experience performance poetry.
Traditional Stories – fables, myths and legends.
Persuasion – identifying evidence used in persuasion; identifying appropriate language
and phrases for effective persuasion.
Mathematics
This half term the whole school maths targets are based on ‘division’. The Year 5 targets are displayed in the classroom.
Counting, partitioning & calculating
Multiplication and division – applying knowledge to solving real life problems
Ratio and proportion
Securing number facts, relationships & calculating
Properties of numbers – recognising number patterns and beginning to use simple algebra
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
2D shape – developing knowledge of symmetry
3D shape
Handling data and measures
Capacity and scales - reading scales, estimating and measuring volumes of liquids.
Science
Interdependence and Adaptation – Looking at how plants and animals are suited to their environment and how they are dependent on each other for survival.
