Curriculum Overview for Summer Term2 : Year 2
Second Half of Summer Term 2011 Year 2

This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term.
English - as well as the Primary Framework
Non Chronological reports – researching, planning and organising simple reports.
- creating their own web page.
Reading – scanning a text to find a specific section and making simple notes.
Humorous poetry – reading, learning from memory and performing tongue twisters, riddles and other poems.
Mathematics
This half term the whole school maths targets are based on Division.
The Year 2 targets are displayed in the classroom.
Handling Data and Measure:
Collect, organise and analysis data in tables, lists, pictograms and block graphs.
Solve problems using data handling skills.
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape:
Rehearse, consolidate and progress mental addition and subtraction in the context of money.
Estimate and measure with the focus on reading scales and relating to number lines.
Focus on analogue and digital time.
Use directional language.
Solve problems using money, time, measure and number.
Securing number facts, relationships and calculating:
Open ended problems which focus on enquiry and reasoning.
Solving multiplication and division problems including missing number sequences.
Division focusing on grouping.
Understanding fractions.
Science
Plants – functions of the parts of a plant and what plants need to grow well.
Science skills - Fair testing, making measurements, drawing conclusions from results and providing explanations for results.
