This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term during the topic ‘People Who Help Us’.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

Forming good relationships with peers through a variety of class games.
Taking part and taking turns.
Being responsible.
Finding out about people and jobs in our community.

Communication Language and Literacy

Oxford Reading Tree Stories.
Enjoying a range of fiction and non-fiction texts about People who help us and other things that interest the children.
Story telling and sequencing stories and activities.
Listening to story tapes.
Reading in small groups with an adult.
Labelling pictures and objects.
Developing knowledge of phonemes to spell and read cvc words e.g. cat, top, wet.
Developing knowledge of double vowel sounds within simple words e.g. book, feet, sail.
Use knowledge of sounds to make attempts at more complex words.
Hear, say and write known phonemes at the beginning, end and middle of simple words.
Learning about simple sentence structure including spaces between words, capital letters and full stops.
Developing handwriting skills: forming cursive letters correctly
Writing about a variety of things – People who keep us healthy and safe at home, at school and in the community
Role Play – Child choice – A Police Station and a Hospital

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

Counting forwards and backwards to 20, reading and writing numbers.
Comparing and ordering numbers.
Simple addition and subtraction.
Measures: Money, days of the week, 2d and 3d shapes, repeating patterns with shapes and colours. Using words related to height and weight.
Using analogue clocks to tell o’clock and half past times.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Science: Exploring the changes in our surroundings by going on ‘Welly Walks’ in the outside areas of the school. Investigating simple electrical circuits and trying to make a light and buzzer switch on. Finding out about magnets and testing what objects are magnetic and what are not.
ICT : Use the keyboard to type words and sentences.
DT: Design and make an emergency vehicle using junk modelling materials.Making Lemon Cakes
RE: Special clothes we and other people wear.

Creative Development
Art: Painting with a purpose
Music: Exploring rhythm and patterns in music making

Physical Development
PE: Games – Skipping
Gym – small apparatus, stretching and curling
