This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term during the topic Nursery Rhymes
Personal Social and Emotional Development
Getting to know our new classmates through circle time, games and shared activities.
Learning new routines, including the start of the day, lunchtime and daily timetable including assemblies.
Appreciating and following rules, understanding why we have them.
Developing independence by accessing resources, tidying up, taking turns, looking after personal belongings and school equipment.
Developing and understanding different relationships with class mates and adults in the setting.
Communication Language and Literacy
Role-play area will be Nursery Rhyme Land and Santa’s Grotto.
Reading and enjoying a variety of fiction and non-fiction books.
Introducing the characters from the Oxford Reading Tree Scheme.
We will regularly visit and loan books from the library.
Story sequencing and telling and listening to stories.
Sharing rhyming stories and singing songs.
Developing writing skills using small hand tools, patterns, tracing, mark making.
Writing our names.
Continuing with learning letters and sounds of the alphabet.
Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy
Learning number rhymes, counting and comparing numbers, recognising and identifying shapes.
Recognising, ordering and writing numbers to ten.
Identifying one more or one less than any given number to ten.
To become familiar with 1p, 2p and 5p coins.
To measure objects to find out different lengths and weights.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Colour and light.
Signs of seasons changing – Welly Walks.
Learning through playdough, sand, water play and other sensory play opportunities.
Exploring construction apparatus and creating models.
Becoming familiar with computers and using various programs.
Using programmable toys.
Creative Development
Using different media and resources to create art work around a nursery rhyme.
Introducing percussion instruments, singing and learning rhymes.
Using scissors safely and with increased control.
Using a needle and thread to sew.
