Curriculum Overview for Autumn Term2 : Year 3


Second Half of Autumn Term 2011- Year 3

Y3 Team: Mrs Carter, Mrs Greenham, Mrs Dicker, Mr Light,
Mr Whitbread, Ms Tucker and Mrs Leon.
This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term.
   
English  (as well as the Primary Framework)
Information writing – reports, adverts and persuasive writing
Play-scripts
Christmas writing(a mixture of genre)

Mathematics
Whole school maths targets for this term are based on Ordering numbers
The Year 3 targets are displayed in the classrooms.

Measure
To know the relationships between kilometres and metres, metres and centimetres, litres and millilitres, kilograms and grams
 . Data Handling
To answer questions by collecting, organising and interpreting data: to use tally charts and frequency tables, pictograms and bar charts to represent results and illustrate observations.
 Money, Fractions, Time
To solve one and two step problems involving money, or measures including time, choosing and carrying out appropriate calculation
Recognise unit fractions of numbers and quantities (half, third, quarter etc; litres, grams, kilograms etc.).
To read the time on an analogue clock and on a 12 hour digital clock
Securing Number
Derive and recall all addition and subtraction facts for each number to 20, sums and differences of multiples of 10 and pairs of numbers that total 100
Derive and recall multiplication facts for 2x 3x 4x 5x 6x 10x tables and the corresponding division facts
To order and place numbers to 1000 on an empty number line

Science
Relating to the National Curriculum children will be taught about Grouping and classifying materials
a.to compare everyday materials and objects on the basis of their material properties, including hardness, strength, flexibility and magnetic behaviour, and to relate these properties to everyday uses of the materials                   
b) that some materials are better thermal insulators than others            
c) that some materials are better electrical conductors than others
d) to describe and group rocks and soils on the basis of their characteristics, including appearance, texture and permeability
e) to recognise differences between solids, liquids and gases, in terms of ease of flow and maintenance of shape and volume.

PE –   Gymnastics: Stretching, Curling and Arching movements linking into short sequences with partner work.

Music –   Ukulele
Spanish  –  Where I live, Countries, My house
