This is an overview of the work we will be covering this half term.
English (as well as the Primary Framework)
Creating images in poetry
Use time connectives to sequence writing
Spell compound words and investigating word families
Distinguish between spelling and meaning of common homophones
Newspapers - headline writing, identifying key facts, opinions, writing reports
Mathematics
Whole school maths targets for this term are based on -place value.
The Year 4 targets are displayed in the classrooms.
Counting Partitioning calculating
Partition, round and order four-digit whole numbers; use positive and negative numbers in context and position them on a number line; state inequalities using the symbols < and > (e.g. –3 > –5, –1 < +1)
Add or subtract mentally pairs of two-digit whole numbers (e.g. 47 + 58, 91 – 35)
Derive and recall multiplication facts up to 10 × 10, the corresponding division facts and multiples of numbers to 10 up to the tenth multiple
Securing number facts and Understanding Shape.
Use knowledge of rounding, number operations and inverses to estimate and check calculations
Calculating, measuring and understanding shape
Solve one-step and two-step problems involving numbers, money or measures, including time; choose and carry out appropriate calculations, using calculator methods where appropriate
Science
Relating to the National Curriculum, children will learn about vibration and sound
including
that sounds are made when objects [for example, strings on musical instruments] vibrate but that vibrations are not always directly visible
how to change the pitch and loudness of sounds produced by some vibrating objects [for example, a drum skin, a plucked string]
that vibrations from sound sources require a medium [for example, metal, wood, glass, air] through which to travel to the ear.
